2. How to Play (Basic Rules)

Top Rummy runs on the classical 13-card system, challenging players to use quick pattern-matching skills and strategic thinking to win rounds.

• The Core Objective: Group all 13 cards dealt to you into valid melds—specifically, Sequences and Sets—and make a legal declaration ahead of your opponents.
• The Pure Sequence: An absolute requirement for any legal win. This is a consecutive run of 3 or more cards from an identical suit made entirely without a Joker (e.g., 7♦, 8♦, 9♦).
• The Impure Sequence: A consecutive group of matching suit cards that uses a Printed Joker or a Wild Card to substitute for a missing rank (e.g., J♣, Q♣, Joker).
• Valid Sets: A cluster of 3 or 4 cards sharing the exact same face rank but possessing completely unique suits (e.g., 2♠, 2♦, 2♥).
• Turn Flow: On your turn, pull one card from either the face-down closed deck or the open discard pile. Rearrange your hand layout, and drop one unneeded card back into the open pile to finish your turn.

3. Simple Winning Strategy

• Lock the Pure Run Immediately: Do not spend your initial turns forcing complex card sets. Focus entirely on completing your pure sequence first, as lacking one means your entire hand is calculated at maximum penalty points if a rival wins suddenly.
• Purge High-Value Deadwood: Discard unmatched high-value cards like Aces, Kings, Queens, and Jacks during your first few moves. Because these carry 10 penalty points each, dumping them early minimizes your point exposure in case of a surprise defeat.
• Track the Discard Pile: Closely observe which cards your table rivals pick up from the open discard stream. Avoid throwing down cards that match those specific ranks or sit right next to them in sequence, effectively starving their hand strategy.
